The selected course is fundamentals of leadership in nursing. It is an introductory course of leadership in nursing. The course seeks to equip nursing students with key knowledge, skills and competencies on leadership. Leadership is integral for the provision of quality and safe health care to patients. Every nurse is a leader at the bedside and is expected to apply the key principles of leadership in resolving some of the complex challenges that their patients face. The leadership course will also teach the nurses about followership and its relationship to leadership. The focus of the course is to impart knowledge on common leadership styles and approaches and the key traits and skills that are essential for effective leadership. The nursing students will then be able to identify situations where they need to apply leadership skills within their nursing practice.
