Article Summary
The anticipated generational shift in the workforce is finally here. This will change the size of the workforce as well as the relationships between employers and employees. The workforce is currently two-dimensional, one side is ageing while the other is relatively young and ready to be integrated into the labor market. This new shift is poised to bring about uncertainty as well as change in the workforce. One of the striking differences of the current work population as well as the upcoming one is with regards to decision making. The upcoming workforce will ensure more involvement of all stakeholders in decision making. This will facilitate more diverse and evidence-based decisions.
Personal Opinion
It is indeed time for a new workforce demography. This is because of the changing dynamics of the contemporary world. There is need for speed, efficiency, creativity as well as innovation. These, unfortunately, cannot be guaranteed by the current workforce. Employers should this brace themselves for this inevitable change and make the necessary adjustments to accommodate these new demographics. In addition, the imminent workforce does not require any training mainly because of their innovation and ingenuity. I do not support the premise of the authors that the new changes pose a challenge. This is because the coming generation of workforce is already diverse, meaning that some will roll over into leadership and others into subordinate positions.
