Girl scouts
Girl scouts is a youth organization for girls in the United States of America. The organization works towards preparing girls to enlighten and empower them. It is built on pillars of compassion, bravely, charisma, leadership and development. They work on influencing the society through activities such as first aid and community service. Their accomplishments are acknowledged with a variety of distinctive awards ranging from gold, silver and bronze medals.
Being a member of the girls’ scouts gives one a great opportunity to meet people from the outside world and create links that are later beneficial to them. I was a member of the girls’ scouts from when I was in pre-school. I served in different departments in the team from the junior scouts’ p to the senior scouts until I became the commander of the team. When one joins the scouts when they are young, it gives them a good opportunity to grow well rooted in the group and learn all there is concerning the team.
Junior scouts are taught how to march in events through intense practice in the field. When they are good in it, they are sent out for public parades where they are required to perform during official events such as public holidays. One girl from the team is then selected to command the team during their public parades.
When the junior youth are now old enough, they are exposed to more roles and responsibilities. They start going out for outdoor activities such as camping and hiking. These activities focus on endurance and stability.
Through the different opportunities such camping and hiking, we as the sours learn how to endure difficult situations through learning how to survive challenging environmental conditions such as colds in the morning and scorching sun during the day. This helps us as women to learn how to endure the challenging situations and take advantage of every situation for our own gain. This process also trains a woman into womanhood since they learn how to handle difficult situations in the family.
Through the camping time, we were taught on how to grow and transit from childhood to womanhood. Most of our trainers were female who could teach us in details what exactly entails being a lady and being a woman. We get full information on how one can handle a family. Some more intense training is given to the older scouts who are almost getting into marriage where they get group premarital counselling.
When the group is good in outdoor activities, they are then introduced into the community service responsibilities. In this step, the girls are taught how to do community service. They are taught on the difference between mercy giving and evangelism. In evangelism, they go out to the society, locate a group of people who they will minister to and explain their roles as scouts. They then involve the group in a small training on how to become responsible citizens.
In mercy giving, they locate a group who need financial and physical aid. Most of these activities are done in children homes and special hospital wards. The team takes food, clothing and monetary aid to the selected group and them spend time with the group, ministering and giving hope to them.
There are other community service also included such as cleaning the community or visiting the juvenile and adult prisons. The main purpose for visiting the prisons is for entertainment. They entertain the inmates so that they feel appreciated and loved. They also talk to them on how to become better citizens.
The scouts also clean the society through different means. They can buy bins and place them at appropriate locations and they empty the bins after every two days. They can also choose to ick litter than is on the pathways and sweep places that need sweeping.
The scouts also get involves in environmental conservation. In this process, they plant trees every four months and apply mulch to the ground to prevent soil erosion. In some departments, the scouts are allowed to set contours on hilly places such that the water does not erode the soil when it rains.
After the team has done all these activities, they now join the first aid team where they go on tours and attend parades where they provide first aid services. They also accompany the junior youth in their public parades and camps to provide first aid to them. After all these steps, they now graduate to scout commanders.
Conclusion
Being a scout is quite interesting and it more amazing when one is a girl scout. We undergo a series of trainings until we are fully molded to lead another group of scouts. We get links to different organizations whom we serve such that when we graduate from scouting we easily get employment. We also get opportunities to serve the community and help those who are in need.
