Health Inequalities and the Need to Continue Reforms
Following the Covid-19 pandemic, economic decline, and systemic racism, these factors have greatly impacted communities within the United States, spotlighting healthcare inequalities. Health care inequalities are a problem. We should not be surprised that they are also a massive issue in the 21st century. We must take steps to address them as soon as possible and in the future. The health care industry is one of the most important sectors in the economy. It has a huge impact on the economy and society as a whole. It is also one of the most complex industries to be involved with, which makes it very important for us to understand its problems and how we can solve them.
Healthier communities
According to Johnson and Johnson, healthcare inequalities deeply rooted within systemic racism pose a significant threat to communities of color within the United States. Their ethnical and racial background should not determine an individual's health quality (Kumar & Gayle, 2022). Based on the video, Johnson and Johnson narrates about investing in a community that offers culturally competent solutions that create healthier outcomes, mainly for the colored community and the blacks. Through community programs, there is a need to continue reforms. Introducing scholarships, non-financial support, and mentorship programs would be a significant move to better the connection between medical and clinical care and cultural and social needs.
In the video, a doctor and a nurse talk about how the health care system affects different people, which is reflected in their lives. The doctor tells his story of how he has to work overtime to make ends meet because of his job as a doctor. The nurse explains to her mother that she has to return to work after giving birth and can't afford to live with her husband any longer because they are both working.
Johnson and Johnson should put more effort into bringing forward some health equity ideas, mainly from impacted individuals (Johnson & Johnson, 2022). Following this bold step, Johnson and Johnson opt to partner with businesses and community leaders to help identify and invest in sustainable and scalable solutions that impact the black community.
Inclusive and diverse corporate culture
There is the need to put in a considerable amount of effort to help in the acceleration and expansion of building a workforce and an inclusive culture to help reflect on the diversity of the communities and patients served (Kumar & Gayle, 2022). More importantly, there is a need to focus on hiring diverse employees. In my view, according to the video, the move by Johnson and Johnson to optimize how it develops talents and hires while offering cultural immersion programs helps improve the understanding of the inequalities in the healthcare sector.
On endurance of alliances
Through their solid history in science, technology, and healthcare, in my view, Johnson and Johnson stand a greater chance to inspire and activate a significant and systemic change that would significantly impact the quality of health, mainly in the black community. Through their global efforts to leverage their global network, I think they would be in a better position to address social and economic determinants related to health inequalities.
