Healthcare statistics deal with how healthcare systems collect, store, and interpret data. Understanding and applying statistical knowledge is crucial for an individual working in healthcare. First, it ensures that caregivers understand the health status of the general population. Patients who visit a healthcare organization record their conditions (Kim et al., 2020). Through recording, nurses or caregivers can identify a more prevalent situation and take action to prevent it from developing into a health crisis.
Secondly, caregivers apply statistical knowledge to ensure that they apply evidence-based practices in nursing practice (Kim et al., 2020). EPB practices are widely used in healthcare since they enhance patient satisfaction levels. Nurses who understand basic statistics understand that EBP is arrived at through research that depends on statistical evidence (Kim et al., 2020). As a result, nurses with this knowledge support EBP and are always willing to apply findings from healthcare research.
Thirdly, statistics help nurses make decisions. A practicing nurse, for instance, may see that a client in the emergency department needs treatment (Sharples, 2018). Statistical information can be gathered through observation, patient assessments, and interviewing (Brazil et al., 2019). It is critical to decide which patients require emergency medical treatment and which can endure.
Fourthly, a nurse with statistical understanding can easily for a hypothesis test. A hypothesis test is standard in cases where nurses are called to participate in research (Sharples, 2018). Based on statistical knowledge, nurses can help test which hypothesis is true. For example, nurses use statistical knowledge to divide patients into groups, issue medications, and confirm a hypothesis or null hypothesis to determine which drugs are more effective.
Finally, the management uses statistics for quality improvement in my healthcare organizations. They conduct a trend analysis using the available data (Sharples, 2018). As a result, they can manipulate future projections using the currently available data and follow the course of action with the best outcomes. Finally, according to Brazil et al. (2019), healthcare managers struggle to find the best way to deliver quality services. Using statistical data and knowledge, they can benchmark themselves using other successful healthcare organizations to improve their service delivery continuously.
